BOLSHEVIK BOGEY IN BRITAIN (1943)

Hughes, Emrys, 1894-1969, Bolshevik bogey in Britain (Glasgow: Civic Press, 1943). [Heisler] P4114

This defence of socialism was written by Emry Hughes, the husband of Agnes Hardie, socialist activist, and son-in-law of Keir Hardie, generally regarded as one of the founders of the Labour Party. Between 1931 and 1946 he edited Forward, the newspaper of the Socialist movement in Scotland, during which time he wrote about the contradiction in supporting the Russian war against Nazism while hating socialism.
