IHR Digital
Digital research, publishing and services are central to the IHR. Our work focuses on five key areas:
- Resources: for historical research, including British History Online and the Bibliography of British and Irish History.
- Research: digital history and digital methods with historians, archivists and librarians. Recent projects include history and big data, born-digital data and web ontologies.
- Publishing: History of Parliament and the Humanities Digital Library.
- Communication: Reviews in History and History Online, together with the IHR website.
- Teaching and training: introductions to digital humanities for graduate students.
IHR Digital brings together historians, editors, bibliographers, publishers, web designers and developers. Who we are.
British and Irish Furniture Makers Online (BIFMO) now available!
British and Irish Furniture Makers Online (BIFMO) is a searchable and freely accessible online database, comprising the Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, 1660-1840, and London Joiners’ Company apprenticeship bindings and freedom admissions, 1640-1720. A collaboration between the Furniture History Society (FHS) and the Institute of Historical Research (IHR), the first phase of this project has developed the database thanks to generous funding from the Furniture History Society and its membership.
How to study:
Urban History using British History Online
British History Online contains an extensive range of sources for urban history from the early medieval period to the 20th century, with a particularly rich array of source material for the history of London, which during this period grew into one of the world’s largest metropolises.
