SWORD OVER EUROPE (193-)

Independent Labour Party (Great Britain), Sword over Europe (London : Independent Labour Party, [193-]) [Heisler] P4117

This pamphlet, with its strikingly gory cover image, made the argument that the gathering momentum for war was anathema to socialist principles. Published in 1938, it recalled the Independent Labour Party’s (ILP’s) intransigent opposition to the First World War, and despite attempts at negotiation, the ILP’s anti-war stance prevented them from becoming affiliated to the Labour Party.
