Keown, Eric, Mr Silvertop seeks peace (London : League of Nations Union, [1937]) [Heisler] P4124
This darkly humorous short story is set in a busy public house, where Mr Silvertop, a wounded veteran of the Great War, sets about quietly destroying the pro-war arguments of his fellow drinkers, exhorting them to join the League of Nations Union. The Union had once been the most effective voice for peace in the UK, but by 1937, when this pamphlet was printed, it was already in steady decline, in parallel with the League of Nations itself.
