British Association for Local History

The British Association for Local History (BALH) was formed in 1982. To a certain extent it replaced the old Standing Conference for Local History (SCLH), which had also previously published the Association's journal, The Local Historian. The BALH is a charity which aims to promote local history and serve local historians. In addition to its publications its other activities include the organisation of visits, conferences and lectures and the provision of insurance to member societies.
