The British Library was established as the national library of the United Kingdom by Act of Parliament in 1972 and moved to its current location at St Pancras in 1998. It has been of vital importance in the writing of history since its days as the British Museum Library, both in terms of its printed and manuscript holdings and through its research initiatives to conserve, digitise and make available these resources.
