HALLATON 4786 2965.
1334 Subsidy £106.50. Hallaton was divided into two main manors in
1171: Bardolfs (also known as Beaumonts) and
Engaines (also known as Broughton). These descended separately
until 1614. Each had its own market and fair, but since these were
held on the same day of the week and at the same feasts,
respectively, they were presumably single trading occasions, the
revenue from which was divided between the two manors. The market
(presumably the Thurs market) was recorded in 1638, but had fallen
into disuse by 1767. The two fairs descended with the manors. The
fair on Simon and Jude and that on the Nativity of John the Baptist
were recorded in 1638 (VCH Leicestershire, v, pp. 1236).
Market town c.1600 (Everitt, p. 474).

fairs are set out first for Engaines manor and then for Bardolfs.
