The Royal Historical Society (RHS) Bibliography is a project which has been ongoing in various forms since the start of the 20th century. Initially sporadic volumes covering particular periods were published, then in 1934 the idea for an annual listing of Writings on British History was first implemented. In the 1970s and 1980s more topical Annual Bibliographies were produced, and the backlog of earlier periods was further cleared. The Bibliography moved onto CD-ROM in the 1990s and finally online in 2002. It now provides bibliographic data on historical writing dealing with the British Isles, and with the British empire and commonwealth, during all periods for which written documentation is available – from 55BC to the present.
