The Society for the Study of Labour History (SSLH) was founded in 1960 by Eric Hobsbawm among others, including both Marxist and non-Marxist historians, and with a membership which extended outside the traditional university sector. Though the intention of the SSLH was initially to raise the profile of labour history within the mainstream of the subject, its Labour History Review eventually developed into a full-blown journal, and the Society now organises a variety of conferences and events.
