The Social History Society was founded in 1976, by Professor Harold Perkin, and now aims to promote the study of both social and cultural history (as evinced by the title of the Society's journal, Cultural and Social History). Since its inception it has hosted an annual conference, and has also sought to include social historians working outside academia.
