Few academic disciplines exist isolated from history – it is, in its broadest sense, inherently interdisciplinary. These relations can manifest themselves in various ways, including the 'historical turn' in the study of subjects such as literature, the fact that all subjects themselves also have histories (whose study requires a combination of discipline-specific and history-based methodology and knowledge, eg the history of art, or of medicine) and the extent to which the practice of history itself has been influenced by the adoption of techniques and methods from other disciplines such as sociology or psychology.
