A History of School History

The primary aim of the Project was to create a 'history of school history' - essentially, this has been published as the book, 'The Right Kind of History: Teaching the Past in Twentieth-Century England'. However, the draft chapters we wrote for Professor Cannadine make more use of the survey evidence and the interviews and concentrate on the development of the curriculum and the classroom experience. Each of the documents below can be read as a stand-alone account of the development of history education in a particular period. Together, they comprise a detailed and animated 'history of school history'.
