John Hite trained to teach at Sussex University in 1976 and subsequently taught in a comprehensive school and sixth form colleges. He reflects on his own history education in a direct grant school in Cambridge and his early teaching experiences in Sussex. He was an early supporter of the Schools History Project and introduced 'active' teaching methods into sixth form classes using sources books. He has published popular A level texts on German and Russian history with Chris Hinton (his interview also on this website) which advocate these methods. He discusses the changes in sixth form history teaching and A level history assessment over the past thirty years. Interviewed by Nicola Sheldon.
