School work of Audrey Brown, 1942-3
Audrey Brown attended Hinckley (Secondary) Modern Girls School in Leicestershire. Her history book covers one year's work and starts with Roman Britain, but then jumps to Tudor and Stuart England, followed by notes on the eighteenth century, the War of the French Revolution and 'Admiral' Nelson. Tbe nineteenth century is covered in some detail, focusing on key individuals, such as Florence Nightingale, Abraham Lincoln, Louis Pasteur and Cecil Rhodes. Throughout the book, Audrey has pasted in cut-out portraits and other line drawings which she has coloured. Audrey's notes are interspersed with short test questions and finish with a section about the twentieth century which includes only two topics - from bicycles to aeroplanes and women's suffrage.
