School work from Morecambe Grammar School, 1960-67
This extensive collection of history exercise books covers the school career from age 11 to 16 of a boy who attended Morecambe Grammar School in the 1960s. The pages include colourful drawings and nicely hand-written notes. There are some imaginative writing in the first year work, such as 'A Day in My Life by a Roman Soldier', 'A Guided Tour round Rochester Keep' and 'Things a (medieval) Page Should Not Do in Public'. The curriculum was a traditional run-through of British history starting with the Romans in Britain, through the Conquest and then focusing on each king and the events of his reign, particularly the struggles with the barons and early parliaments. By the end of their first year, the boys had reached the Black Prince, but then skipped to start the Tudors at the start of their second year. Each book has numbered pages and an index.
